How to Use Your Values to Guide Your Investments

When you think of your finances, your first thoughts probably aren’t about your core values. You’re more likely to be focused on the debt you are trying to tackle or the long-term goals you have for your money. Often, conversations about finances are more focused outwardly on things like interest rates, rather than inwardly on things like intrinsic values. At times, it may even feel like the values that guide your life and the pursuit of money are at odds with each other, but that doesn’t have to be the case.
With values-based financial planning, you can pursue your goals while staying true to yourself and the most important aspects of your life. Fortunately, it’s a fairly straightforward process, too. First, identify what matters most to you. Then, visualize your goals. Finally, determine a plan to reach those goals and get started implementing it.
How to Navigate Financial Planning Challenges Common to Professional Women.

After many years in financial services – a business still highly dominated by men – it’s become clear to me that many financial advisors do a disservice to women. They make assumptions, for instance, that women are uninterested in finance – or worse, that they are uneducated about money matters. In my own experience, my female clients are serious about understanding how to make their money work best for them and how it can bring them success in reaching both financial and life goals.
While there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all financial plan for women, I have found that successful female executives can benefit from using the tips below – and from avoiding common traps, too.

In 1997, Circle of Women gathered 500 women to celebrate their power and to develop women as philanthropists in the community. The objective was to broaden the base of support for YWCA Minneapolis programs and help improve the future for women and girls in the Twin Cities. This year, we’re celebrating 25 years of this event, the lives changed and the progress made over the decades.
Our anniversary event will be held virtually, connecting supporters with our mission to eliminate racism and empower women and girls, while creating meaningful engagement through technology.
Help support our mission by joining us on May 18!
Date: Tuesday, May 18, 2021
Time: 6:00 pm - 6:45 pm
Location: This is a virtual event
Kathy Longo is on the board of the YWCA Minneapolis and you would be attending this event as her guest.

News From Flourish
We made it through 2020! And we all deserve a feather in our caps just for that. This last year has been the most tumultuous in recent memory, if not ever, and while it came with its share of challenges there have also been some things to celebrate or, at least, reflect upon and appreciate.
For me, it has been a joy to have my family around more often and the addition of our puppy, Sunny, has brought levity in a time of gloom. The addition of three new employees, Joey, Kate, and Grant, has been wonderful for my firm, our clients and has enabled each member of our team to devote more time and energy to the things we love to focus on professionally and personally. We have added new ways of communicating with our clients and others who value our thoughts and perspectives with the introduction of the Flourish Financially Challenge and Flourish Insights. Please have a listen and subscribe on Apple podcasts, your Alexa device, or wherever you get your podcasts. This project has been rewarding and a learning experience for Jay and myself and we hope you are enjoying it as well. If you wouldn’t mind, we would love it if you would take a moment to rate the podcasts and leave a review. Your review will help us expand our audience and our reach.
Your Money is About More Than Dollars and Cents

The following article is based on the content covered in my book, Flourish Financially: Values, Transitions, and Big Conversations. If you’d like to read more, you may purchase a copy here.
When considering how to find a financial advisor, there are various methods people employ. However, I recommend finding someone who adds a personal touch to their work. After all, money is about much more than dollars and cents. It’s about our family, it’s about our first experiences with money, it’s about our life values, and it’s about the conversations we do or do not have with the people who influence our saving, investing, sharing, and spending. These conversations are key, but they don’t always turn into “big conversations” because money remains a taboo subject.
I’ve always believed that my job as a financial advisor is to help my clients to have these conversations so they can make the best financial decisions – ones that align with their goals and their values. This means getting to know my clients and how they think about money, both individually and as a couple.
If you want to develop a financial plan that goes beyond dollars and cents, and fits your personal needs and wants, the following steps offer guidance on how to find a financial advisor who will provide a personal touch.
